Which inflatable fits the ages at your party
A toddler unit needs more ground than a bounce house and costs more. That is the first thing the numbers say. The second is in our rider limits, which are written by age band.
Across the toddler units, bounce houses, combos, obstacle courses and interactive games, only four product pages name an age at all. So the age question has to be answered from the figures we do publish, and there are two: the rider limit and the space required.
The rider limits are written by age
Our FAQ lists the maximum number of riders from each group that should play in a unit at one time.
- 15 ft x 15 ft bounce house: 8 children up to age 8, 6 children aged 9 to 12, 4 teens, 4 adults.
- 13 ft x 13 ft bounce house: 6 children up to age 8, 5 children aged 9 to 12, 4 teens, 3 adults.
- 15 ft x 18 ft combo: 10 children up to age 8, 6 to 8 children aged 9 to 12, 4 to 5 teens, 4 adults.
- 18 ft slide: 1 rider, at every age.
"These numbers are only a guideline. Please refer to the actual bounce house for the specific number of riders allowed at one time."
KidZone Party Rentals FAQRead across one row and the age question mostly answers itself. A 15 by 15 bounce house holds 8 small children or 4 teens. Same unit, half the number.
Now read the bottom row. An 18 ft slide takes one rider at a time whatever their age, so a slide is a line rather than a capacity. Ten children at a slide is nine children waiting, which is fine for the first twenty minutes and long by the second hour.
Under 5: the toddler units cost more and need more room
We list four. Animal Kingdom Toddler at $300, Beach Party Toddler at $325, Fun Fair Toddler at $325, and Gingerbread Playland at $525.
Then read their space required figures. Animal Kingdom and Beach Party both want 25 ft by 25 ft. Fun Fair wants 30 by 30. Gingerbread wants 20 by 25, plus 10 ft of height. Our bounce houses run from 16 by 16 to 20 by 20, so every toddler unit asks for more ground than every bounce house we rent. They start at $300 as well, where 14 of the 21 bounce houses are $215. If your yard is the constraint rather than your budget, that changes the shortlist before any theme does.
The Gingerbread Playland is the only toddler unit that publishes both a capacity and an age: 10 kids ages 1 to 8, in a large bouncing area with a small slide. It is also the only toddler unit whose space required figure includes a height, 10 ft.
Two of the four, Animal Kingdom and Fun Fair, publish no description at all. Ask what is inside those before you book one.
A standard bounce house can be the better toddler booking. The Monster Truck is $199, publishes ages 2 to 8, and needs 20 by 20, which is less ground than any of the four toddler units.
Five to eight: the tier the catalog is built around
Our bounce house range holds 21 units from $199 to $300, and 14 of the 21 are $215. This is the band where the rider limit is most generous: 8 at a time in a 15 by 15. For a birthday with a dozen guests, that is a line that never really forms.
Space required runs from 16 by 16 to 20 by 20. The Crystal Bounce House is at the small end, 15 by 15 of vinyl in a 16 by 16 space, at $215. Two units, the Justice League and the Space Bouncer, publish no space figure, so call with your measurements before you book either of those.
Nine to twelve: what the slide buys
Our combo range holds 29 units from $250 for the Dream Castle Combo to $375 for the Unicorn Combo.
One figure is worth knowing before you spend the difference. For the 9 to 12 band, the published limit on a 15 by 18 combo is 6 to 8 riders, against 6 on a 15 by 15 bounce house. The extra money buys the slide and a larger footprint more than it buys capacity. Twenty of the 28 combos that publish a space figure sit between 18 by 25 and 20 by 30, and the Unicorn Combo at the top lists 41 ft long by 25 wide by 19 high.
That is still often the right call at this age, because the slide gives the group something to do other than jump. Just book it for the slide, not for the numbers.
Thirteen and up
A 15 by 15 bounce house takes 4 teens at a time, the same as 4 adults, which is where the bounce house stops being the answer for a teen party.
Our obstacle courses run from $350 for the 30 ft Radical Run to $825 for the 105 ft course. They are long rather than tall: the 30 ft Radical Run stands 7 ft high and lists a space required of 15 ft by 40 ft, so it wants a strip of ground rather than a square. Check that shape against your yard before the length tempts you.
In the interactive games and rides range, the Giant Tricycles with race track publish the only age floor we list anywhere: designed for kids ages 10 and up.
The mixed age party, which is most of them
Our safety rules answer this one directly, and it is the most specific age instruction we publish:
"Keep smaller children out of the unit when older children are jumping. Allow a separate time for just the small children to participate and enjoy the fun."
KidZone Party Rentals FAQSo a party spanning ages three to twelve is either one unit run in shifts, or two units with the crowd split. Shifts cost nothing and need someone to enforce them. Two units cost roughly another $215 and run themselves.
If that job has no owner at your event, our FAQ lists event attendants at $75 per hour to manage large events. For a school or church event with a few hundred children, read the space guide alongside this one, because there the limit is usually the ground rather than the ages.
The rules that apply at every age
- Adult supervision at all times, whenever children are in or around the unit.
- Shoes off before anyone enters.
- Keep the number in the unit at or below the figure in the rental agreement.
- No horseplay or flips.
- No gum, food, drinks, candy or silly string. Our FAQ says these are very harmful to the vinyl, and that breaking this rule can result in additional cleaning charges.
The unit also stays where we set it up. Our FAQ asks that it is not moved from the setup location for any reason, which matters more than it sounds at a party where someone decides the shade has moved.
Where the real answer lives
The product page is the authority for the unit you want, and the rider limit on the unit itself is the authority for how many can be on it. Prices and sizes change, and most units publish no age at all, so if the ages of your crowd are the deciding factor, say so when you ask for the quote. Our starting prices are on every product page, and the cost guide walks through what a full booking adds up to.
If your party is heading indoors this season, the ceiling matters more than the ages. That is covered in setting up an inflatable indoors.
Common questions
What age is a bounce house for?
Most of our units do not publish an age range. What we publish is a rider limit written by age band. For a 15 ft x 15 ft bounce house it is 8 children up to age 8, or 6 aged 9 to 12, or 4 teens, or 4 adults at one time. For a 13 ft x 13 ft it is 6, 5, 4 and 3. Our FAQ notes these are only a guideline and that the unit itself carries the specific number allowed at one time. Two units do name an age: the Monster Truck bounce house lists ages 2 to 8, and the Gingerbread Playland toddler unit lists 10 kids ages 1 to 8.
Do you rent inflatables for toddlers?
We list four toddler units: Animal Kingdom Toddler at $300, Beach Party Toddler at $325, Fun Fair Toddler at $325 and Gingerbread Playland at $525. Check the space before you fall for a theme. Animal Kingdom and Beach Party list a space required of 25 ft by 25 ft, Fun Fair lists 30 ft by 30 ft, and Gingerbread lists 20 ft by 25 ft with 10 ft of height. That is more ground than any of our bounce houses ask for.
How many children fit in a bounce house at once?
In a 15 ft x 15 ft bounce house our published guideline is 8 children up to age 8, or 6 aged 9 to 12, or 4 teens, or 4 adults. In a 13 ft x 13 ft it is 6, 5, 4 and 3. A 15 ft x 18 ft combo takes 10 children up to age 8, 6 to 8 aged 9 to 12, 4 to 5 teens or 4 adults. An 18 ft slide takes one rider at a time at every age. These are guidelines, and the unit itself carries the specific number allowed at one time.
Is a combo worth the extra money for 9 to 12 year olds?
For capacity alone, not by much. Our published limit for a 15 ft x 18 ft combo is 6 to 8 children aged 9 to 12, against 6 in a 15 ft x 15 ft bounce house. Combos run from $250 to $375 and bounce houses from $199 to $300, so the difference buys a slide and a bigger footprint rather than a large jump in how many children can be on it at once. A combo also needs more ground. Twenty of the 28 that publish a figure sit between 18 ft by 25 ft and 20 ft by 30 ft, against 16 ft by 16 ft to 20 ft by 20 ft for a bounce house.
What do you rent for teenagers?
The rider table is the reason to look past a bounce house for a teen party: a 15 ft x 15 ft holds 4 teens at a time, the same number as adults. Our obstacle courses run from $350 for the 30 ft Radical Run to $825 for the 105 ft course, and they are long rather than tall, so they want a strip of ground rather than a square. The 30 ft Radical Run lists a space required of 15 ft by 40 ft and stands 7 ft high. In the interactive games range, the Giant Tricycles with race track carry the only age floor we publish anywhere, kids ages 10 and up.
We have toddlers and big kids at the same party. What should we do?
Our published safety rules answer this one directly: keep smaller children out of the unit when older children are jumping, and allow a separate time for just the small children to participate. So either run the unit in age shifts, or book two units and split the crowd. Event attendants are $75 per hour if you would rather have someone else managing the rotation while you run the party.
Every price, dimension and rule on this page was read from our own product pages and FAQ on September 17, 2026. Our catalog changes, so the individual product page is the current authority for the unit you want. Of the units read that day, four publish an age range, so for everything else the rider limit on the unit is the number that counts.
